Privacy Policy

Who we are

Siltwell ("Siltwell", "we", "us") is a gardening application operated by Siltwell, LLC. You can reach us at privacy@siltwell.com.

What we collect

• Account: your email address, an optional display name, and a securely hashed password.
• Your garden data: the gardens, beds, plantings, events, harvests, notes, care schedules, and photos you create. This is yours.
• Location: an approximate garden location (a place or coordinates) you provide, used to estimate your climate zone, frost dates, and local weather. Much of the app works without precise location.
• Weather-station connection: if you connect an Ecowitt, Ambient Weather, or Tempest station, we store the credentials needed to fetch your readings. They're stored write-only (once saved, they're never shown back to you or anyone else) and used only to retrieve your own station's data.
• Notifications: if you enable push notifications, a device token so we can send them.
• Payments: if you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number just your subscription status and a customer/subscription identifier.
• Usage & device data: basic usage analytics (via Google Analytics, consent-gated in the EEA/UK) about how the app and site are used, plus standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) needed to operate and secure the service.
• Support & email: messages you send us, and delivery data for the transactional emails we send.

How we use it

To provide and improve Siltwell: run your account; store and sync your garden; estimate weather and frost; send the care, frost, and weather alerts you've enabled; process your subscription; send transactional email (verification, password reset, billing); keep the service secure; and understand aggregate usage. We rely on our agreement with you (to provide the service), your consent (for optional notifications and marketing), and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the app.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising. We use a small set of service providers who process data on our behalf:

• Cloudflare: hosting, database, and file storage.
• Google (Google Analytics): privacy-first, consent-gated usage analytics.
• Stripe: subscription payments.
• Resend: transactional email delivery.
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: Android push notifications (only if you enable them).
• Weather data providers (e.g. Open-Meteo) — forecasts and history for your location.
• Your weather-station provider (Ecowitt / Ambient Weather / Tempest), only when you connect a station, to retrieve your own readings.

We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of Siltwell and its users.

Advertising & cookies

Siltwell uses a session cookie to keep you signed in, and Google Analytics 4 (which sets first-party analytics cookies such as _ga) to understand how the app and marketing site are used. We use Google Consent Mode: in the EEA and UK, analytics and advertising storage are off by default and we ask for your consent before enabling them; elsewhere they are on by default and you can decline. When we run ads, our marketing site (siltwell.com) may also use conversion or measurement tags from platforms such as Google, Meta, or Reddit. We do not run third-party advertising inside the app. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Your rights & choices

At any time you can: access your data, correct it, request a copy by emailing us, or delete your account and all associated data from Settings. You can turn notifications and marketing email on or off. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK or California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to your data protection authority. To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email privacy@siltwell.com.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we promptly remove your personal data and garden records from our live systems; residual copies in encrypted backups age out on our normal backup cycle. We may retain minimal records (such as billing or tax records) where the law requires.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed, and weather-station credentials are stored write-only and never returned. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information, and to limit what we collect in the first place.

International transfers

Siltwell runs on Cloudflare's global network. Your data may be processed in the United States, the European Union, or other countries where our providers operate, with appropriate safeguards.

Children

Siltwell isn't directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Siltwell includes affiliate links to recommended gear and seeds. They don't change what we collect about you here; see our Affiliate Disclosure for how they work.

Changes

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date above; significant changes will be notified in-app or by email.
